auditory hallucinations
Voices without sources
Auditory hallucinations are sounds perceived without an external source—hearing things that aren't there.
Most commonly these are voices, though they may include music, footsteps, or other noises.
They occur in schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, but also with sleep deprivation, grief, drug use, and certain neurological conditions.
The medication helped quiet the auditory hallucinations she'd been experiencing for months.
