martyrizing

Creating a saint

Martyrizing is putting someone to death or causing them to suffer for their beliefs, or treating someone as a martyr.

The word appears in religious and political contexts: The regime was martyrizing dissidents.

It can also mean making a martyr of oneself through excessive self-sacrifice or complaint: She's always martyrizing herself over the smallest inconveniences.
