martyrize
Kill for beliefs
To martyrize is to make a martyr of someone—either by putting them to death for their beliefs or by treating their suffering as noble sacrifice.
The word also means to torment or torture: The regime martyrized dissidents for their faith.
Less commonly, it describes casting oneself as a victim: She martyrized herself over every minor inconvenience.
