listening stations
Sound monitoring points
Listening stations are locations equipped for monitoring radio communications, often for intelligence or surveillance purposes.
During the Cold War, governments operated listening stations to intercept enemy transmissions.
The term also applies to audio sampling points in retail settings where customers can preview music before purchasing: The record store had listening stations for new releases.
