listening station

Intelligence monitoring facility

A listening station is a facility equipped to intercept and monitor communications, typically for intelligence or military purposes.

During the Cold War, listening stations tracked enemy radio transmissions and signals: The hilltop listening station monitored Soviet broadcasts.

The term also applies to any designated spot for audio surveillance or, more innocuously, a place set up for sampling music in a store.
