legalisation

Making something lawful

Legalisation is the British spelling of legalization—the process of making something legal that was previously prohibited or restricted.

The term appears most often in debates about drugs, gambling, prostitution, or immigration status: the legalisation of cannabis, advocates for legalisation.

To legalise is to enact such a change.
