league championship
Season's final showdown
A league championship is the title awarded to the winner of a sports league's competition, typically determined through regular season play, playoffs, or both.
The term refers both to the achievement itself and to the decisive contest: The team won three consecutive league championships.
In American professional sports, league championship often specifically means winning a conference or league title before the final championship round—as in baseball's League Championship Series, which precedes the World Series.
