leaded gas
Vintage automobile fuel
Leaded gas is gasoline containing tetraethyl lead, an additive that improved engine performance and reduced knocking.
Once standard, it was phased out in most countries by the late 20th century after lead emissions were linked to serious health and environmental damage.
Now called leaded to distinguish it from the unleaded fuel that replaced it.
