late night ads
After-midnight television pitches
Late night ads are television commercials that air in the early morning hours, typically between midnight and 6 AM.
These slots are cheap, so they attract products that can't afford prime time or don't want mainstream scrutiny: infomercials for kitchen gadgets, phone sex lines, get-rich-quick schemes, dubious supplements.
The term evokes a particular aesthetic of low production values and aggressive pitches: It looked like something from a late night ad.
