land-grab
Aggressive property acquisition
A land-grab is the seizure of territory, often through force, questionable legal maneuvers, or exploitation of power imbalances.
Historically it describes colonial acquisition of indigenous lands.
Now it extends to aggressive corporate acquisitions or any opportunistic taking: The merger was really just a land-grab for their patents.
