komos

Ancient Greek revelry

A komos is a rowdy, drunken procession in ancient Greek culture—revelers singing, dancing, and carousing through streets after a symposium or festival.

The practice honored Dionysus, god of wine, and these processions gave rise to Greek comedy.

The word survives mainly in classical scholarship and discussions of ancient theater.
