knotted rope
Bound fibrous cord
A knotted rope is a rope with one or more knots tied in it, used for climbing, securing loads, or marking intervals.
Historically, sailors used knotted ropes to measure a ship's speed—the origin of the nautical term "knot." A knotted rope also served as a simple counting or timing device, and in some contexts, as an instrument of punishment.
