kilobase
DNA length unit
A kilobase is a unit of length for DNA or RNA molecules, equal to one thousand base pairs (in double-stranded DNA) or one thousand bases (in single-stranded nucleic acids).
Scientists use kilobases to describe gene sizes and genomic distances: The gene spans about 12 kilobases.
Abbreviated kb.
