keyseat
Key-holding machine cut
A keyseat is a slot or groove cut into a shaft or hub to receive a key—a small piece of metal that locks rotating machine parts together, preventing slippage between a shaft and the gear or pulley mounted on it.
The term is standard in mechanical engineering: The machinist cut a keyseat into the drive shaft.
