kagool

Lightweight rain shell

A kagool is a lightweight, waterproof jacket with a hood, typically pulled on over the head rather than zipped or buttoned.

The British term—also spelled cagoule—evokes cheap plastic rainwear for hikers and schoolchildren: We packed kagools in case of rain.

The word comes from French, where it originally meant a monk's hooded cloak.
