Crosswalk-free street crossing
Jaywalking is crossing a street illegally—typically outside a crosswalk or against a traffic signal.
The practice is named for "jay," an old slang term for a naive rural person unfamiliar with city traffic.
Laws against jaywalking vary widely; some cities enforce them strictly while others ignore them entirely.
