jaywalked
Ignored crosswalk signals
Jaywalked is the past tense of jaywalk—to cross a street illegally or carelessly, especially outside a crosswalk or against a signal.
The term comes from "jay," early 20th-century slang for a naive rural person unfamiliar with city traffic: She jaywalked across the busy intersection.
Enforcement varies widely; in some cities it's ignored, in others actively ticketed.
