SIDS

Unexplained infant mortality

SIDS stands for sudden infant death syndrome, the unexplained death of an apparently healthy infant during sleep, typically before one year of age.

Also called crib death or cot death.

Parents are advised to place babies on their backs to reduce SIDS risk: The campaign to prevent SIDS has saved thousands of lives. (Lowercase sids may be a plural of technical terms like session ID.)
