intransitives
Verbs without objects
Intransitives are verbs that don't take a direct object—actions complete in themselves without transferring to something else.
She slept is complete; She hit demands an object.
The term is grammatical shorthand: Intransitives don't need objects to make sense.
Many verbs work both ways depending on context.
