id ego superego
Psyche's three parts
In Freudian psychology, the id, ego, and superego are the three components of the psyche.
The id is primitive impulse—raw desires seeking immediate gratification.
The superego is internalized morality—the conscience that judges and restricts.
The ego mediates between them, navigating reality while balancing primal urges against social standards.
In casual use, these terms describe competing inner forces: My id wanted the whole cake, but my superego reminded me I'm on a diet.
