hypocenter

Underground seismic source

The hypocenter is the point of origin of an earthquake beneath the earth's surface, directly below the epicenter.

The term also refers to the point on the ground directly beneath a nuclear or aerial explosion—the spot where the blast's effects are most concentrated: The hypocenter of the Hiroshima bomb is now a memorial park.
