horse plowing
Draft animal farming
Horse plowing is the traditional method of breaking and turning soil using a plow drawn by one or more horses.
Before tractors became widespread in the twentieth century, horse plowing was the primary means of preparing fields for planting.
The practice persists among Amish farmers and in competitive plowing matches: The old-timers still remember horse plowing these fields.
