clods

Lumps of soil

Clods are lumps of earth or clay, the kind that break up when you work soil: He broke up the clods with a hoe.

By extension, a clod is a dull, stupid, or insensitive person—someone as dense as a lump of dirt: Don't be such a clod.

The insult suggests clumsiness and lack of refinement.
