back forty
Far farm field
The back forty is the remote or undeveloped part of a property, originally referring to a forty-acre parcel at the rear of a farm.
The phrase evokes rural land far from the house, often rough or uncultivated: He's out clearing brush in the back forty.
Used loosely for any distant corner of one's land, even small suburban lots, usually with humorous exaggeration.
