homunculi
Small artificial creatures
Homunculi is the plural of homunculus, a Latin word for a tiny human or human-shaped creature.
In alchemy, a homunculus was a miniature person supposedly created artificially.
In anatomy and neuroscience, homunculi are distorted human figures mapped onto the brain's surface, with body parts sized according to their sensory or motor nerve density—huge hands and lips, tiny torsos.
The word also describes any small humanoid figure: The dashboard was crowded with homunculi and bobbleheads.
