herbivores
Grass and leaf-munchers
Herbivores are animals that eat only plants—grasses, leaves, fruits, and other vegetation.
The term contrasts with carnivores (meat-eaters) and omnivores (both).
Cattle, deer, rabbits, and elephants are herbivores.
The word often appears in discussions of ecology and food chains: Herbivores convert plant matter into protein that predators consume.
