herbal infusions
Brewed plant drinks
Herbal infusions are beverages made by steeping plant materials—leaves, flowers, roots, or bark—in hot water.
Unlike true tea, which comes from the Camellia sinensis plant, herbal infusions use other botanicals: chamomile, peppermint, rooibos, hibiscus.
The term distinguishes these drinks from tea proper, though many people call them herbal teas: I switched to herbal infusions because I'm cutting caffeine.
