heliophobe

Dreads the sun

A heliophobe is someone who avoids or fears sunlight.

The term combines Greek roots for sun and fear.

It applies literally to people with medical conditions causing sun sensitivity, and figuratively to anyone who shuns daylight—night-shift workers, cave dwellers, or vampires in fiction: As a heliophobe, she kept her blinds drawn even at noon.
