basement office
Subterranean work area
A basement office is a workspace located in the lowest level of a building, typically below ground.
The term often carries connotations of low status, limited resources, or being overlooked within an organization—the opposite of a corner office with windows: They stuck the new hires in a basement office with no natural light.
Basement offices may also suggest scrappy entrepreneurship or humble beginnings: The startup ran out of a basement office for two years before moving to real space.
