photodermatitis

Sun-triggered skin reaction

Photodermatitis is a skin inflammation caused by exposure to light, typically sunlight.

It occurs when certain substances—medications, plants, or chemicals—make the skin abnormally sensitive to ultraviolet rays, resulting in rashes, blisters, or burns: The antibiotics triggered photodermatitis when she spent the afternoon outside.

Also called sun poisoning or photosensitivity reaction.
