haul out

Pull something out

Haul out means to pull something from water onto land, especially boats: We hauled out the kayaks at the end of summer.

For marine mammals like seals and sea lions, to haul out is to leave the water and rest on shore, rocks, or ice—a behavior called a haul-out: Dozens of sea lions hauled out on the pier.
