hakes
Elongated Atlantic swimmers
Hakes is the plural of hake, a slender saltwater fish related to cod.
Several species are commercially important, prized for their mild white flesh: The fishmonger had fresh hakes from the Atlantic.
Like cod, hake appears in fish and chips and other dishes where a flaky, neutral-flavored fish is wanted.
