grizzly bears
Salmon-catching brown predators
Grizzly bears are large North American brown bears, named for the grizzled—gray-tipped—appearance of their fur.
They inhabit wilderness areas from Alaska through western Canada and into parts of the northwestern United States.
Grizzlies are powerful omnivores, eating everything from berries to salmon to elk.
Though attacks on humans are rare, grizzlies are among the most dangerous animals in North America when surprised or protecting cubs.
We hung our food from a tree to keep the grizzly bears away.
