panda bears
Black-and-white bamboo-eaters
Panda bears are giant pandas—large black-and-white bears native to central China.
The term is slightly redundant since *panda* alone suffices, but it clarifies the animal meant: The kids wanted to see the panda bears at the zoo.
Giant pandas eat almost exclusively bamboo despite being classified as carnivores.
The unrelated red panda is smaller and fox-like.
