greenwashed
Deceptively marketed sustainable
Greenwashed describes something made to appear more environmentally friendly than it actually is.
Companies greenwash products through misleading labels, vague claims, or token gestures that distract from larger environmental harms: The "eco-friendly" packaging was greenwashed—the product inside was still full of toxic chemicals.
The term suggests deliberate deception rather than genuine sustainability efforts.
