gospel reading
Mass text recitation
A gospel reading is a passage from one of the four Gospels—Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John—read aloud during a Christian worship service.
In liturgical traditions, the gospel reading holds special prominence: congregants stand, and often only clergy may read it.
The gospel reading for today comes from the sixth chapter of John.
