gobbet

Small raw piece

A gobbet is a small chunk or lump of something, especially raw flesh or meat.

The word appears most often in literary or somewhat old-fashioned contexts, frequently describing something unappetizing or grotesque: The vultures tore gobbets of flesh from the carcass.

In British academic settings, a gobbet is also a short extract from a text that students must identify and analyze in an examination.
