gleaned

Picked up gradually

Gleaned originally meant to gather grain left behind by harvesters—the scraps in the field after the main crop was taken.

The word now usually describes collecting information bit by bit from various sources: I gleaned what I could from the police report.

The implication is of patient, sometimes laborious assembly rather than direct access.
