gas attack
Toxic cloud assault
A gas attack is the military use of toxic chemical agents—such as mustard gas, chlorine, or nerve agents—against enemy forces or civilian populations.
The term emerged from World War I trench warfare, where poison gas was deployed on a large scale: Soldiers scrambled for masks during the gas attack.
Now used more broadly for any deliberate release of harmful gases.
