galvanized pipe
Corrosion-resistant steel conduit
Galvanized pipe is steel or iron pipe coated with zinc to prevent rust.
The coating gives the pipe a distinctive gray, slightly spangled appearance.
Once standard for household plumbing, galvanized pipe has largely been replaced by copper and plastic, though it remains common for outdoor applications and older construction.
The plumber recommended replacing the galvanized pipe with PEX.
