free-throw lane
Court's painted zone
The free-throw lane is the rectangular area on a basketball court extending from the baseline to the free-throw line, also called the key or the paint.
Offensive players cannot remain in the lane for more than three seconds while their team has the ball.
During free throws, players line up along its edges waiting for a potential rebound.
