three-point line

Perimeter scoring boundary

The three-point line is the arc painted on a basketball court beyond which field goals count for three points instead of two.

Its distance from the basket varies by league—farther in the NBA than in college or high school.

A shooter must have both feet behind the line when releasing the ball: He stepped back behind the three-point line and let it fly.
