followership

Being a disciple

Followership is the role or capacity of those who follow a leader, or the qualities that make someone an effective follower.

The term emerged in leadership studies to emphasize that leaders need skilled, engaged followers to succeed—followership isn't passive obedience but active participation: Good followership requires knowing when to defer and when to push back.

Also used for a body of followers collectively: The guru built a devoted followership.
