flush valve
Toilet's release mechanism
A flush valve is the mechanism inside a toilet tank that releases water into the bowl when you flush.
It consists of a flapper or seal that lifts to allow water through, then closes to let the tank refill.
The term also applies to commercial toilets with pressurized valves that flush without a tank: The flush valve in the restroom needs replacing.
