float valve
Buoyancy-controlled water stopper
A float valve is a valve that opens or closes automatically based on the level of liquid in a tank.
A buoyant float rises and falls with the water level, mechanically controlling the valve to maintain a desired level.
The toilet tank uses a float valve to refill after flushing and stop when full.
Also called a ballcock in plumbing contexts.
