floor joists
Horizontal structural members
Floor joists are the horizontal beams that support a floor, running parallel to each other between walls or foundation supports.
They form the structural framework beneath flooring materials, typically spaced sixteen inches apart.
The inspector found rot in several floor joists under the bathroom.
In older homes, floor joists are often solid lumber; newer construction may use engineered wood or steel.
