flash mobs
Coordinated public performances
A flash mob is a group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform a brief coordinated action—often a dance, song, or freeze—and then quickly disperse.
Organized through social media or text messages, flash mobs emerged in the early 2000s as performance art or protest: A flash mob broke into choreographed dancing in the train station.
The term has also been applied to groups that gather for criminal purposes like robbery, though this usage is contested.
