finger joint
Where fingers bend
A finger joint is a woodworking joint where interlocking rectangular projections (fingers) on two pieces of wood mesh together like clasped hands.
Stronger than a simple butt joint, it's used for box corners and drawer construction: The cabinet featured dovetails on the front and finger joints on the back.
Also called a box joint.
Separately, finger joints are the knuckles—the places where finger bones meet.
