half lap
Notched wood connection
A half lap is a woodworking joint where two pieces of material are notched to half their thickness, then fitted together so their surfaces lie flush.
The overlapping creates a strong connection for frames, boxes, and furniture: The corners were joined with half laps.
Also called a halving joint.
