fiberscope

Internal optical probe

A fiberscope is a flexible viewing instrument that uses fiber optics to transmit images from inaccessible places—inside pipes, engines, or the human body.

Light travels through bundled glass fibers to illuminate the target area, and the image returns through the same bundle.

Medical fiberscopes allow doctors to examine internal organs without surgery: The surgeon used a fiberscope to inspect the patient's stomach lining.
